Custom Seattle Music Tour Details

Jimi Hendrix. Nirvana. Brandi Carlile. Seattle will forever be synonymous with music, from jazz and folk to grunge and hip hop. With our local guides, you’ll be able to customize a complete music experience to visit the places where familiar artists – and others worth knowing – got their big break and venues where budding musicians perform to this day.

Explore the historically rich neighborhood of downtown Seattle and Pioneer Square, once a vibrant music scene where legends like Kurt Cobain made their debut and the likes of Jimi Hendrix spent their free time. If you’re a fan of the latter, enjoy a drive through his stomping grounds growing up and pay homage to his rockin’ statue in a neighborhood still known for its counterculture scene.

You can easily spend much of your tour – which can be any length and involve walking, driving, or a mix of both – in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, home to alternative live music venues, intimate nightclubs, and record stores where we can browse while enjoying a cup of coffee from one of the area’s many excellent cafes. We’ll have the chance to enter places where music history was made!

Another area worthy of inclusion on your music tour is Seattle Center, location of annual music festivals, the iconic Space Needle, and the Museum of Pop Culture (aka MoPOP). Arrange for admission to any of these places for during or after your tour. Music fans, make MoPOP a must-visit to see rotating exhibits featuring music memorabilia and actual band artifacts.

Other opportunities for music and music history abound, from the wacky and incredibly talented performers at Pike Place Market to the few acclaimed clubs offering the best blues and jazz concerts in the city. For classical enthusiasts, we’ll pass by Seattle’s most esteemed institutions like the Seattle Opera and others, from West Seattle to Bainbridge Island. Maybe you can even snag some tickets for after your tour!

Our music tour is for everyone, and our local music-loving guides are prepared to create an amazing custom tour based on the interests of everyone in your party!

Pike Place Market

Your Seattle walking tour includes the maze that is the historic Pike Place Market, where you can enjoy Pacific Northwest eats, immigrant-inspired street food, plenty of shopping, and views of the Puget Sound. Your tour guide will give you an overview of the market’s history and its tight-knit community comprising a variety of cultures and generations-owned shops that continue to lure thousands of visitors and locals each year.

Pioneer Square

The area is rich with history of the city’s early mining and brothel days, evident in the late 19th and early 20th century buildings still standing, and contains subtle nods to its early inhabitants, the Duwamish and Suquamish peoples. Your tour guide will take you through the development of the city and capture the city in its pre-industrial and -settlement days as a Native American village and harvesting grounds.

Central Saloon

This historic bar has seen many legendary acts pass through its doors, and its indoor decor pays homage to some of the greats, including Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and many more. This is a must-visit for any music lover!

Community Impact

Our tours are designed with our communities first in mind, meaning that we will always encourage supporting our local businesses including our city’s best record shops and live music venues.

Small-group and off-the-beaten-track experiences are practices in responsible tourism, reducing overcrowding in over-touristed areas and emphasizing visits to lesser-visted neighborhoods including Capitol Hill and Belltown.

The opportunity to add in walking segments to our tours reduces our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

We strive to represent all voices in our storytelling, particularly those minorities who are often overlooked or underrepresented in the tourism industry, including black musicians who contributed immensely to Seattle’s music scene.
